My team offers great leadership which truly ensures patients get the best support possible. Mark Taylor, Hospital Director, said: “I am delighted that we have been rated ‘outstanding’ in the ‘well led’ category. Pelham Woods is owned by The Priory, which specialises in mental healthcare and runs mental health hospitals across the UK. It is an inpatient rehabilitation and recovery hospital for women with mental health needs, personality disorders or mild learning disabilities and who may have a history of challenging behaviours, self-harm, substance misuse problems or trauma. Pelham Woods is located in Dorking, in Surrey. Staff work with patients to prepare a personalised timetable of activities which often includes mindfulness sessions, fitness sessions and various types of therapies. The site has communal gardens and computers for patients to use. The CQC mentioned how patients had their own bedrooms with en-suite facilities. This meant there was a direct link from the ward to the senior management of the service.” The meeting was attended by the patients plus the consultant and hospital director. The report said: “The service had a weekly patient forum meeting which gave all the patients the opportunity to have a direct say in the running of the hospital. We observed many examples of positive interactions between staff and patients whilst observing groups and activities.” The CQC said, “We observed staff engaging with patients in a respectful manner and we found the wards to be a calm, positive and friendly environment. ![]() Pelham Woods was rated ‘good’ in all other categories: “is the service safe”, “effective”, “caring” and “responsive”. ![]() Staff were proud of their work and the progress patients were making.” The inspectors went on to say: “There were consistently high levels of constructive engagement with staff and patients.”.” “Staff were striving to deliver and motivate staff to succeed with great commitment towards continual improvement and innovation. In their review of the “well led” category, the CQC said: “The service was well led at ward level and by the hospital director with an inspiring shared purpose.
